Rachel Rose : The Last Day, LUMA ARLES

"Tracing the epic journey of the Earth, through the toys of a child’s room." _ Rachel Rose. This phrase perfectly encapsulates the essence of Rachel Rose’s exhibition The Last Day, which immerses us in a poetic yet surprising universe. The exhibition presents jittery cinematic images with a unique chromatic quality, all taken in the artist’s own childhood bedroom. Through these images, Rose unveils the imperceptible mechanics of the medium, using toys and everyday objects to symbolize seven distinct eras in the history of the Earth. Each toy becomes an actor in the planet's history, a mirror reflecting the major stages of the Earth’s evolution, from its origins to its uncertain future.

Organized by LUMA Arles in collaboration with Google, the exhibition invites us to reflect on human imagination and its development throughout the history of the Earth. By using the child's room as a setting, the artist creates a striking contrast between the infinite world of toys and the tangible, sometimes daunting reality of the Earth's history. Each object, seemingly mundane, is reinterpreted through Rose’s lens to become a witness to cosmic processes and significant geological changes. The exhibition sheds light on the complex relationships between objects, memory, and collective imagination, inviting viewers to rediscover the world around them through a deeply human and introspective perspective.

The LUMA Arles Foundation, which hosts this exhibition, is a contemporary art center founded by Maja Hoffmann and the LUMA Foundation. Located on the Parc des Ateliers, a former industrial site, the foundation offers an exceptional setting for modern artistic creations. The creative campus includes several renovated buildings, including the famous LUMA Tower designed by architect Frank Gehry. This collaborative space supports contemporary artistic creation through exhibitions, conferences, performances, and specific projects. LUMA Arles thus becomes a true laboratory for art and reflection on our time.

IDzia regularly collaborates with the foundation, contributing to the organization of exhibitions, audiovisual creations, concerts, and events. Each project provides a unique opportunity to explore new artistic dimensions and transform the space into a sensory and intellectual experimentation ground.
