Now Festival Arles in Preview - 2023

A true sensory journey into the heart of history — this is what the Italian duo Opal offered during the second day of the Festival Maintenant, organized by the student association Arles en Prémices. The Musée Départemental Arles Antique, with its impressive ruins and permanent collection, provided a unique setting for this unforgettable performance. The magic of music took on a whole new dimension in this historic venue, where the ancient and the modern met in perfect harmony.

The Opal duo, consisting of a master of the handpan and a guitarist skilled in slide guitar, created an enchanting atmosphere that captivated the audience throughout their performance. The sound of the handpan, both soft and percussive, blended beautifully with the deep resonances of the slide guitar, offering a rich and fascinating sonic mix. Each note seemed to resonate within the ancient walls of the museum, creating a synergy between the music and the space. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the iDzia installation, which added an extra layer to the experience. Subtle lighting effects and 4K video projections played a key role in crafting an immersive environment where sound and light fused together to envelop the audience in a unique world. The lighting highlighted the textures and shapes of the exhibited objects, giving them a new life, while the projections transported the audience into a dreamlike dimension.

This experience allowed visitors to see the museum's collection from a fresh perspective. Far from being just a simple display of artifacts, the sound and visual installation invited the audience to engage in a dialogue with history. The visitors found themselves immersed in an atmosphere where ancient relics took on an almost mystical dimension, merging with modern music. The vibrations of the handpan and the guitar chords seemed to converse with the ancient stones, as if history itself were vibrating in unison with the sounds.

Thus, the event offered a unique encounter between the past and the present, between traditional music and modern technology. The Opal duo and the iDzia installation created a moment of contemplation, where each spectator could be carried away by the magic of the moment while rediscovering the museum's history in a new light. This fusion of arts not only highlighted the treasures of the Musée Départemental Arles Antique but also allowed the public to experience a memorable sensory journey where history and music intertwined in perfect harmony.
